Professional Fauna Spotter Catchers for Mining, Construction & Development

Fauna Services provides licensed fauna spotter catchers (FSC) across Western Australia for mining, construction, land development, road construction and infrastructure projects. Our team of qualified zoologists and fauna handlers ensures your site remains compliant with the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act), and all relevant state and local environmental legislation.

What Does a Fauna Spotter Catcher Do?

A fauna spotter catcher is a licensed wildlife professional who monitors clearing and earthworks operations to identify, capture, and safely relocate native fauna before and during ground disturbance. They are required on most clearing, demolition and earthworks sites in Western Australia where native fauna may be present — particularly conservation significant species.

Our fauna spotter catchers are responsible for:

  • Pre-clearing inspections of vegetation and ground habitat
  • Identification and capture of all native fauna species including reptiles, mammals, frogs and birds
  • Safe handling and relocation of captured fauna to approved release sites
  • Monitoring for conservation significant species such as black cockatoos, quenda, chuditch, numbat, carpet python and other threatened or priority listed fauna
  • Maintaining detailed fauna capture logs and GPS records for compliance reporting
  • Liaising with site managers, environmental consultants and DBCA officers

Our fauna spotter catchers have extensive experience across a wide range of sectors and project types throughout Western Australia:

  • Road and infrastructure construction — highways, rail corridors, pipelines and utility projects
  • Renewable energy — solar farms, wind energy and transmission line corridors
